Moms in Arms Linked Fervently in Prayer for Their Children
By Marina Scofield, Volunteer Storyteller
A few years ago as Patrice Bovero was struggling with the challenge of raising a teenage son, she was approached by Debbie Gehret. “Debbie told me about her LifeGroup which was comprised of other moms with teenagers. They would meet in the prayer room of the church, while youth group was conveniently taking place upstairs.”
The focus of their study was The Power of a Praying Parent. “I soon found myself praying alongside other Christian women, all giving up control of their children to our Lord. Little did I know that these women would accept me and love me and take me under their wing in this amazing LifeGroup.”
The LifeGroup’s faith increased exponentially as they witnessed answers to incredible, almost impossible prayers. “There were amazing miracles as we prayed for our children to overcome their struggles, including high school graduation challenges for some of our boys. We were all present as our children got up on stage to receive their diplomas. God answered our prayers and we got to see it!”
“With arms linked fervently in prayer for our children, our group became affectionately known as the ‘Momrades’ (like comrades).” Their relationship grew as it was forged in prayer on behalf of their children, and they rejoiced and shared in fun, treasured moments. They supported one another in fundraising, celebrated significant life events, served together, and retreated with other Mariners women.
One of the special blessings the LifeGroup would witness is the worship element that Patrice would later bring to their meetings. Sharing a new talent for playing the ukulele, Patrice would play each week, as well as, offer private (and free) lessons, along with lots of encouragement. “Their unconditional love has allowed me to feel comfortable in my own skin. I have blossomed while forging forever friendships, and I will bring this love with me as I move to another state. Not only will I carry their love with me, but also a book of photo memories they made for my farewell, and the gift of a symbolic life ring that represents who we are!"
Debbie Gehret, the LifeGroup’s leader adds, “We are all so glad for the next part of Patrice’s story, and we are so very happy to have walked and prayed with her in this part of her journey through Half Moon Bay.”
