Helping Comes Easily To Hailey By Lisa Richardson, Volunteer Storyteller
Growing up with four sisters, Hailey Barmore has always been surrounded by activity. As a high school freshman, she has played volleyball, basketball, and track. In addition to these athletic endeavors, Hailey can often be found in the middle of activity at Mariners Church doing what comes as naturally to her as breathing…..SERVING.
On a regular basis, Hailey is a helper in the Sunday morning preschool program. She truly likes serving and enjoys being able to put a smile on a young face. This leads to her occasionally helping out in the Little Lambs Club, the preschool age Surf’s Up program. In the summertime, Hailey adds Day Camp to that list. She enjoys inspiring young children and being a role model for them. Fall presents the opportunity for Hailey to work the Pumpkin Festival at the Mariners Mac N Cheese booth, a favorite volunteer venue for this busy girl.
How did Hailey get this serving bug? A number of factors contributed. Being part of the church from birth, Hailey attended Little Lambs, Surf’s Up and Day Camp for years. Eventually, her sisters and their friends were her Day Camp counselors. She remembers watching them and looking forward to the time when the opportunity to be a leader would be hers. Service has also been modeled by her parents with her father, Warren, serving in various ministries in the church and being a member of the Rotary Club while her mom, Betty, has been part of the worship team for many years.
Mid-week, Hailey can be found at youth group. She and her sister Grayson assist in leading the singing for worship. Through the teaching at group she has been encouraged to be bold about sharing her faith at Half Moon Bay High School. Hume Lake Christian Camp with her church friends is a regular part of the summer. An “aha” moment came for Hailey when it was explained to her that Christianity is not a religion, it is a relationship. Hailey could identify with that. Social interaction, building relationships, being part of the community, and serving…..it’s all part of the life God has given to Hailey and her church family is the beneficiary.
